Derbyshire Neighbourhood Watch

Nether Heage NHW

Nether Heage Community News and Neighbourhood Watch are a very active group. Our Co-Ordinators are Cheryl, Michelle and Anthony.

We have a Facebook page “Nether Heage Community News and Neighbourhood Watch” which has over 1700 followers and on which we promote safety in our village, promote local businesses, let our villagers know what’s on in the local area etc this is run by Michelle and Cheryl.

Via the Messenger link on our Facebook page we are able to get posts put one with immediate effect when there is suspicious activity in our area or smaller matters like dogs / cats going missing.

At the beginning of the Covid pandemic we set up a Coronavirus link at the head of our Facebook page and regularly update everyone with the latest information from our Government thus avoiding any fake news, we also encouraged and facilitated communal help with shopping, dog walking etc.

We have an emailing link in our village which is updated daily by Anthony.

Our role in fighting Scams, especially e-mail ones is very important and we send out warnings and share experiences that our villagers send us along with using Action Fraud Alert in particular.

Our role in sharing Police Information is important, in particular using the Alert messages.

Our role in sharing Derbyshire County Council, Amber Valley and Ripley & Belper Town Council information is important as this covers a wide range of matters including road closures, markets, schools, housing and missing persons etc.

Any issues with utility providers are quickly dealt with and our villagers are given the right places to raise any problems they have.

  • We do regular litter picks, hold Easter / Halloween / Christmas competitions
  • Annual Christmas Fayre which is supported by local businesses and includes a visit from Santa himself.
  • We have a village Christmas Tree every year and the children in our village are encouraged to go along and put on the decorations that have kindly been supplied by our Community.
  • We have even produced our own village Christmas Card which had the image of Heage Windmill in the snow on the front which was taken by one of our own villagers.
  • We support the annual Heage and Nether Heage Carnival.

We have regular meetings at the Spanker Inn and always get a good attendance and lots of interaction and fresh ideas, it really is a pleasure to see the inspiration from our villagers.

The Spanker public house is the hub of our village and continues to go from strength to strength, we are lucky that the landlord and landlady are keen to have the same values as our Neighbourhood Watch group and want to bring our community together.
